Equilibrium Experience

An immersive, tactile sound experience

In this installation, wellness, spirituality, and technology converge through sound and design. The Equilibrium Experience offers an immersive installation where tactile sound is delivered via a lounger equipped with strategically placed transducers. While reclining comfortably, listeners are also enveloped in audible sound through a quadraphonic surround system, creating a truly immersive experience.

Background

For this installation, Josef Rebbe and Joeri Bonsel recorded Dutch tenor Henk Gunneman as he sang permutations of the Hebrew letters YHWH in various harmonic frequencies. The recording took place in a twelfth-century, twelve-sided chapel in Germany. Through a special recording technique and a four-speaker arrangement, the unique acoustics of the chapel are projected, bringing its reverberations into the listener's experience.

In addition to the chapel recordings, the installation incorporates electronic sounds, ocean waves, sand, vocals (Rugile Daujotaite), cello (Ola Renska), duduk (Benjamin Megevand), gongs, and singing bowls. These sounds are also transmitted through tactile transducers, allowing participants to feel them within their bodies. This immersive physical experience invites participants to enter altered states of consciousness.

According to the creators of this installation, vibrations serve as a bridge between consciousness and matter. In essence, these vibrations enable consciousness to reshape and manifest itself within the human body.
